But Wait... There's More

This past week members discussed DMS functionality, mandatory training and more. I have last minute ILTACON tips even if you cannot attend this year. Explore curated sources on these topics including some from ILTA’s treasure chest.

My DMS Can Do What?! Can Yours Do That Too?

Do you know all the capabilities of your DMS? If shopping for a new DMS, do you know all the available options? Members ask these questions regularly in the discussion groups. Your peers have collected the answers and asked compiled them in the ILTA On-Demand series on document management systems. Here’s the list of short presentations answering several questions about DMS capabilities:

Mandatory Training

We know buy-in and support from the top help a training program succeed. Short of being best friends with the decision makers, how do we obtain buy-in and support? We should explain the need, but we must do more. We must provide clear answers to the why and the how. By developing a plan outline and expected outcomes, we may be one step closer to getting approval, buy-in and most importantly, support. Luckily, ILTA’s peers have provided excellent tools to make the job easier. See Deborah Thompson’s series, “How to Develop a Training Program – Parts One, Two and Three.” Don’t forget to include onboarding in your mandatory training program. Bradelynn Boyce-Dendy provided an onboarding outline for you, “The Great Onboarding Adventure” found on page 8 of ILTA’s 2015 IT Staffing Survey. If anyone still needs convincing, share Tami Schiller and Michelle Spencer’s best practices article from a recent Peer to Peer, “The Continuous Learning Imperative for Law Firms.”

SOMETHING EXTRA – ILTACON 2016 – What You Need to Know

I hope you can attend ILTACON this year. If you are, you may have noticed you have a new title. You are a participant. The term is all the rage, and it speaks to ILTA’s desire to have you engaged in conversation, learning and sharing. You’re doing much more than attending ILTACON –– you’re participating.

Keynotes can unlock a treasure trove of ideas. This year, ILTACON presents Mike Walsh on Monday. Watch this short video on what to expect from the CEO of the research agency, Tomorrow.

Even if you cannot attend, there are many ways to stay connected to all that is happening in National Harbor. ILTA records many of the sessions and makes them available for download shortly after each day’s sessions. Watch for announcements. Beginning Monday, go to ILTACON TV to catch short video interviews with ILTA’s thought leaders. Follow the Tweets for #ILTACON. Many ILTA participants will tweet throughout the conference or during specific sessions. For example, you can watch for tweeting on #ILTAKEY1 to get the real-time scoop on Mike Walsh’s presentation.

As ILTA’s content curator, I’m always monitoring the discussion forums to discover what topics are top-of-mind among the members. Each week, I focus on a few areas that spark your interest, and I provide some curated resources to assist your own information-gathering on the topics. If there are specific topics you would like assistance exploring, please contact me at joanne@iltanet.org
