Last week members discussed security tools of every kind and more. Catch the stories of innovative client-focused work from three great ILTACON TV interviews and watch for more next week. Explore curated sources on these topics including some from ILTA’s treasure chest.

Security – Here a Tool, There a Tool

Budget concerns loom large for many at this time of year. We must make smart security purchases especially with security spending continuing to increase more than many firms anticipate. See page 6 of the 2016 ILTA/InsideLegal Technology Purchasing Survey. Luckily, ILTACON and LegalSEC Summit programming in 2016 produced many great sessions to help you chose and implement the next great security tools and plans for your organization.

“The Ins and Outs of Encrypting Your Devices”

“SIEM Solutions Exposed”

“Remote Users: The Walking, Talking Security Risk”

“Risk Management Unboxed”

“It's a Multifactor Authentication Shootout!”

“Mobile Device Management Shootout”

“Security Tools for the Non-Geeky IT Staff” (membership in the LegalSEC community required)

“Active Logging: Splunk Tips and Tricks” (membership in the LegalSEC community required)

“Bro: The Network Defense Framework” (membership in the LegalSEC community required)

ILTACON TV Highlights – Innovative Work with Clients, Part 1

Many ILTA members shared their stories about developing innovative solutions for clients. Katie DeBord of Bryan Cave and Jay Hull of Davis Wright Tremaine talk about investing in innovation. Andy Peterson tells the story of Davis Wright Tremaine’s development of DWT De Novo. Chris Emerson discusses the growth of his innovative department at Bryan Cave. SOMETHING EXTRA – Debate on “AI will fail to have a radical impact on the legal profession”

With artificial intelligence discussions at every turn at ILTACON 2016, I thought you might enjoy a recent AI debate. Thomson Reuters offered a debate in July, “AI Will Fail to Have a Radical Impact on the Legal Profession,” with Mark Edwards of Rocket Lawyer and Andrew Bodnar of Matrix Chambers arguing that AI will fail to have a radical impact on the legal profession and Peter Waggett of IBM Watson and Edward Chan of Linklaters arguing against.

As ILTA’s content curator, I’m always monitoring the discussion forums to discover what topics are top-of-mind among the members. Each week, I focus on a few areas that spark your interest, and I provide some curated resources to assist your own information-gathering on the topics. If there are specific topics you would like assistance exploring, please contact me at joanne@iltanet.org
