The session started with panelists discussing how to optimize a data set prior to using analytics.  Tips included how to deal with certain types of information that may skew results before beginning analytics.

Greg Chan, Bingham McCutchen LLP teamed up with Neil Etheridge of Recommind to walk us through a case where his firm had an incoming government production that spanned terabytes of productions.  Greg and Neil showed how using multiple issue coding in Recommind was very effective in identifying and prioritizing key documents.

Mike Quartararo, Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP teamed up with Greg Houston of kCURA to  discuss and demonstrate how they managed an incoming production from opposing counsel of 47,000 documents.  They leveraged a combination of email threading, near duplicate analysis, clustering and statistical sampling  to efficiently and effectively identify documents that required attorney review.

Joy Holley, Bryan Cave, LLP teamed up with Ryan Nichols of Lateral Data to discuss and demonstrate how they leveraged advanced analytics in Viewpoint  to analyze over 2 million documents for an internal investigation in just a few weeks.  Joy and Ryan showed how using Concept Analyzer initially combined with TAR and email threading, followed by another round of TAR enabled them to quickly identify  numerous critical documents that gave the client the guidance they needed.
