Register: Please RSVP to Valerie Melville at 415.612.4043 or vmelville@thesackettgroup.com.

Session Description: Whether you've already upgraded to Word 2013 or are planning a migration, we recommend you join us for this educational session.

Microsoft introduced a new layout engine in Office 2013 which they explain is more predictable, has better performance, and can support more sophisticated layouts than previous layout engines such as Office 2010. The "layout engine" affects the way Word (as well as the other Office applications) positions objects on the page, including tables. We'll illustrate how this impacts new documents, but more importantly, how this affects legacy documents that include tables. We'll provide practical resolutions and discuss best practices.

The new layout engine does not support most compatibility options available in prior versions of Word. Specifically, Word 2013 does not offer the compatibility options for “Suppress Extra Line Spacing at Top of Page” or “Suppress Extra Line Spacing at Bottom of Page”. These settings allow text to align properly with the numbered lines in pleadings and other documents that require line numbered pleading paper, which is a requirement for many of the western U.S. state and federal courts. We'll show this in action and discuss current available workarounds.
